Seoul autumn foliage 2026: palaces, stone-wall walks and Namsan routes

Seoul’s mountains, palace gardens and street trees change at different times depending on species and location. Choose between an urban walk and a hike, then fit palace closures and booking conditions around that choice. Do not plan on a single peak day for the whole city.
Separate the 2026 forecast from observed foliage
VISITKOREA’s 2026 foliage forecast, credited to Weatheri, predicts peak colour at Seoraksan on October 25, Bukhansan on November 4 and Naejangsan on November 11. These are weather-dependent forecasts, not observations or a guarantee for your booking date. It does not specify individual peak dates for Seoul streets, palaces or Nami Island.
What Seoul autumn is: walls, palaces and one very old tree
Choose a Seoul foliage walk around its buildings as well as its trees. The city's list gives Deoksugung-gil as 0.3 km, Jeongdong-ro as 0.5 km and Samcheong-dong-gil as 1.2 km. Changdeokgung's Secret Garden requires a separate timed visit and fee. Deoksugung stays open until 21:00 on opening days, making an evening plan possible. Namsan's northern loop is a 3.5 km walking route; Sungkyunkwan's Myeongnyundang ginkgo is a separate heritage stop near Hyehwa. Individual 2026 peak dates are not confirmed.
Planning your visit
Our suggestion is one area per day: Deoksugung and Jeongdong for a short evening, Changdeokgung and its Secret Garden on your booked day, or Namsan when you have time to walk. Samcheong-dong, Sungkyunkwan and Namsan are not one short walking circuit. The Secret Garden is outdoors and separate from ordinary palace admission. Check the session, language and availability; do not assume English tours always sell out first.
Ten places to choose by interest
This is not an observed colour sequence or popularity ranking. Lengths come from the city's foliage-road list; these separate areas are not one continuous walking itinerary.
- Bukhansan (북한산) — the northern mountain, forecast peak around November 4; steep granite trails from Gupabal or Ui.
- Changdeokgung Secret Garden — A timed garden ticket is required for Buyongji and the garden areas. Standard adults pay ₩5,000 for the garden and ₩3,000 separately for the palace; booking opens six days ahead at 10:00. Enter at your session time, then choose guided or individual viewing under the official rules. Peak foliage is not guaranteed.
- Samcheong-dong-gil (삼청동길) — 1.2 km of ginkgo and zelkova up the east wall of Gyeongbokgung to the galleries and cafés; mornings before the crowds.
- Sungkyunkwan’s Myeongnyundang ginkgo — a separate heritage visit to an old tree in the courtyard. Historical article photos are not evidence of this year’s colour; check grounds access and event restrictions. This guide does not fix an exact planting year.
- Deoksugung stone wall & Jeongdong (덕수궁 돌담길·정동길) — 0.3 km + 0.5 km of ginkgo along the palace wall from City Hall; the classic; palace open to 21:00 for 1,000 won.
- Sejong-daero (세종대로) — the 1.5-km ginkgo boulevard from Gwanghwamun down past City Hall — the way to walk between Gyeongbokgung and Deoksugung in November.
- Namsan north loop road (남산 북측순환로) — 3.5 km, car-free, cherry and maple, from the Namsan library side toward the tower; late afternoon, then stairs up for the lights.
- Seoul Forest (서울숲) — the ginkgo avenue and the woods path (0.5 km ginkgo and elm) by the river; deer, cafés in Seongsu next door.
- Haneul Park (하늘공원) — not leaves but silver grass — 2.2 km of it on the plateau above the World Cup Stadium, silver from early October, festival mid-to-late October.
- Yeouido & Yangjaecheon (여의도·양재천) — Yeouido Park road's 1.1 km of ginkgo by the river; on the south side, Yangjaecheon's 2.95-km dawn-redwood path.

Check before you pay
Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.
- Check how operator or weather cancellations differ from cancellation by you. A cancelled activity does not automatically refund separately booked trains or hotels. Keep a changeable return option.
- Secure the correct departure station and return service. For private transfers, record whether the quote is one-way or round-trip, passenger count, waiting charges and extra stops.
