Seoraksan National Park Guide 2026: Fall Foliage Forecast, Cable Car, Ulsanbawi & Getting There

Choose between a valley walk, the cable car and a mountain ascent before booking transport. A foliage forecast cannot promise the view on a particular day, and nearby routes can differ sharply in gradient and effort.
The mountain itself
For a low-effort visit, start with the park entrance and temple area and decide separately whether the cable car suits the day's conditions. The walk beyond the upper cable-car station can include uneven ground and steps; the ticket does not make the whole mountain accessible. Biryong Falls has steps and steeper sections, so it should not be described as a flat one-hour stroll. Ulsanbawi is a demanding ascent, and Daecheongbong requires a separate mountain itinerary. Check the exact national-park course rather than using one distance or duration for both directions. The cable-car operator sells round-trip tickets on site, not advance online reservations, and may stop service for weather. Allow time for the queue and for returning to Sokcho; a same-day trip from Seoul leaves less flexibility.

Planning your visit
| Getting in | Express bus Seoul→Sokcho about 2.5 h, then local bus/taxi to the park gate. Doable as a (long) day trip; one night in Sokcho is the comfortable play. |
|---|---|
| Foliage timing | 2026 forecast: first color ~Oct 3 (high slopes), peak ~Oct 25 — shifts with weather, re-check before booking. |
| Crowds | Leave room for transport and ticket queues in foliage season. Weekdays or early arrivals do not guarantee short waits. Work back from your booked return journey, allowing for the actual queue and descent. |
| Pair with | Sokcho beach & Daepo fish market, Naksansa temple on the coast, Abai village. |
Standard cable-car return fares are ₩16,000 from middle-school age and ₩12,000 from 37 months through primary school. The operator permits wheelchairs, but not strollers; stroller storage is outside the building. There is no hiking trail for descending from the upper station, so return by cable car. Check the day's operating hours and weather.
Check before you pay
Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.
- Check how operator or weather cancellations differ from cancellation by you. A cancelled activity does not automatically refund separately booked trains or hotels. Keep a changeable return option.
- If staying overnight, save the total including taxes and extra guests, latest check-in, no-show rules and cancellation deadline. If delayed, send your arrival time and obtain written confirmation that the room will be held. Sending a message is not acceptance.

Quick answers
Can I reserve the cable car?
Cable-car tickets are sold on the day; advance reservations are not offered. Operation depends on the day's weather. Decide the cable-car visit after checking operation, and allow for steps and uneven ground beyond the upper station.
Which route suits a lighter visit?
For a lighter outing, focus on Sogongwon and the temple area. Biryong Falls and Ulsanbawi require their own trail assessment; neither should be treated as an automatically flat one-hour stroll. Choose the exact national-park route, check closures, and leave daylight for the return. Travel to Sokcho and the park entrance are separate legs.
