Nami Island works well as a day trip when you leave room for the journey. Choose how to reach Gapyeong first, decide between the ferry and zipwire, then keep the island visit simple: tree lanes, a riverside walk and lunch. This guide gives you the connections and a suggested route without promising a particular day of peak foliage.

How to get to Nami Island from Seoul

  1. Take a train to Gapyeong Station. The island operator lists ITX-Cheongchun journeys of about 60 minutes from Yongsan or 42 minutes from Cheongnyangni. The Gyeongchun Line from Sangbong is another option. Pick a departure using the current railway timetable.
  2. Continue to the wharf in Gapyeong. The operator lists bus 10-4 or a taxi for this last connection. Waiting and traffic add to the journey; reaching Gapyeong Station does not mean you have reached the island.
  3. Cross the river. Use the regular ferry or the separately priced zipwire. Save the wharf name 남이섬 선착장 in your map app; a search for the island itself can put your destination across the water.

For fewer transfers, consider the operator-linked direct shuttle. Check its current pickup point and reservation terms on the official transport page. Reserve the return journey before building a tightly timed evening plan in Seoul.

Nami Island tickets and ferry times

The official admission list shows a general ticket of ₩19,000 including the return regular ferry. Discount categories have separate eligibility rules; foreign nationality alone is not a listed discount. Food, rentals and paid activities need a separate budget.

08:00–09:00Regular departures every 30 minutes.
09:00–18:00Regular departures every 10–20 minutes.
18:00–21:00Regular departures every 30 minutes.

The normal inbound service is 08:00–21:00, with departures from the island at 08:05–21:05. These are the normal hours on the operator's sailing schedule. For September 18–November 22, 2026, it lists a 07:30 start daily and a 21:30 late service on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Confirm the return departure at the wharf: do not assume the last inbound sailing is the last boat leaving the island.

Zipwire or ferry?

The official activity page lists the direct-to-Nami Family Course at ₩55,000 and the Adventure Course via Jarasum and a motorboat at ₩58,000. The zipwire is an arrival option; the return is by boat and that crossing is included. Check booking availability, weather and the operator's height and weight requirements before paying.

Our recommendation: choose the regular ferry if the island walk is your priority. Choose the zipwire when the ride itself is something you want to do, and allow extra time for check-in. Do not build a non-refundable onward connection around weather-dependent operation.

When to visit for autumn foliage in 2026

The 2026 VISITKOREA foliage outlook identifies Nami Island as an autumn destination, but does not give an island-specific peak date. Treat late October into early November as a planning window, not a guarantee. Check recent island photos and the forecast again shortly before travelling.

The metasequoia and ginkgo lanes are different tree types, so one photo is not proof that the entire island has reached the same colour. For a flexible trip, choose a weekday you can move by a few days. For fixed flights, plan a pleasant woodland walk with autumn colour as a bonus.

A relaxed 3–4-hour island route

This is our suggested time budget, not a guided tour or a measured walking-time guarantee. Use the island map at arrival to adapt it to weather and your pace.

  1. Arrival and orientation: 20–30 minutes. Check the return ferry, toilets and the island map before setting off.
  2. Tree lanes: 60–90 minutes. Follow the mapped route to Metasequoia Lane and the ginkgo paths. Leave room for photographs without blocking the paths.
  3. Lunch and a break: 45–60 minutes. Look at menus before choosing; meal costs are not part of admission.
  4. Riverside return: 45–60 minutes. Take a quieter path back toward the wharf and keep a buffer for boarding.

The tourism board's island guide introduces the lanes and riverside walks. Its older transport details should be checked against the operator links above.

Aim for one main destination if you are travelling independently. Adding another attraction means another transfer, queue and return-time constraint. For a different autumn trip, compare our Seoraksan National Park Guide 2026: Fall Foliage Forecast, Cable Car, Ulsanbawi & Getting There; for a day with fewer transfers, use the Seochon Walking Guide: Gyeongbokgung to Tongin Market and Quiet Lanes.

The official zipwire limits are 140–200 cm in height and 45–120 kg in weight; weather can change restrictions. Choose the regular ferry for a child who does not meet the conditions. Confirm availability and the final boarding decision with the operator.

Check before you pay

Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.

  • Check the facilities, date, age band, re-entry and separately sold experiences or priority access. Before paying, verify whether a QR needs exchanging, the collection deadline and identification requirements.
  • Check how operator or weather cancellations differ from cancellation by you. A cancelled activity does not automatically refund separately booked trains or hotels. Keep a changeable return option.
