Plan your visit
Suwon Hwaseong Media Art runs September 19–October 6, 2026, with festival hours of 18:00–22:00. Hwaseomun’s usual shows start at 19:30, 20:30 and 21:30. Standard viewing seats are free on ordinary weekdays and KRW 5,000 per person on weekends, public holidays and the day before a holiday period. Guided tours have separate prices.

Choose your show or tour before choosing your arrival point. The main seated performance is at Hwaseomun, while the English, Chinese and Japanese tour session starts at Janganmun. These are different gates, connected by the festival spaces in Jangan Park. This guide brings the separate schedules together so you can plan one manageable evening from Seoul.

Opening-day exception: an opening ceremony is listed at Hwaseomun on September 19 from 19:00 to 20:00. Check that day’s specific admission and show information instead of assuming the usual 19:30 programme follows the normal pattern.

A weekday next to a holiday is not automatically a free day: the organiser also charges on the eve of a holiday period. Use the price shown for your actual date and product. The seat price is not a combined ticket for every attraction or for the Cultural Festival.
- Follow the organiser’s official NAVER booking link, then look for the viewing-seat or guided-tour product you actually want.
- Check the date, session, seat category, meeting point and cancellation terms before paying. Free weekday seating does not, by itself, guarantee an available seat or mean that all booking requirements disappear.
- Keep the booking confirmation accessible. If the dates do not appear, or identity verification or payment fails, contact the ticket operator before travelling: 02-6933-6480. The published enquiry hours are 09:00–18:00, with a 12:00–13:00 lunch break.
An English landing page is not proof that every overseas card or foreign phone number is accepted. Do not rely on an unconfirmed walk-up replacement for a reserved seat. Check the actual booking flow or ask the operator about your situation.
Guided tours: language and meeting point
Bitdam Hwaseong (빛담 화성) combines commentary, a special viewing seat at Hwaseomun and a route through the festival. The organiser describes it as roughly 90 minutes; the foreign-language session’s published time is 19:35–21:00. Confirm the language offered on your selected date.
| Session | Language | Meeting point → route |
|---|---|---|
| 19:30–21:00 | Korean | Hwaseomun → Jangan Park → Janganmun |
| 19:35–21:00 | English / Chinese / Japanese | Janganmun → Jangan Park → Hwaseomun |
| 20:30–22:00 | Korean | Janganmun → Jangan Park → Hwaseomun |
Guided tour · 2026 official leaflet
The foreign-language session starts at Janganmun, not at the general booking page’s Hwaseomun address. Use the meeting instructions on your tour confirmation. An ordinary viewing seat does not include this guided route.
Getting there from Seoul
Set your map destination to the correct gate. For a self-guided visit beginning at Janganmun, the tourism office lists these approaches. Check live stops and diversions on the day; the table is a route guide, not a fixed journey-time or last-service promise.
| Starting point | Officially listed approach to Janganmun |
|---|---|
| Sadang Station, Seoul | Bus 7770 → Jangan Park (장안공원) stop → Janganmun. |
| Jamsil Station, Seoul | Bus 1007 → Jangan Park (장안공원) stop → Janganmun. |
| Suwon Station | Exit 7, stop across from the station: for example bus 60 or 301 → Jangan Park. Check the boarding direction and current stop location. |
Vehicle restrictions are announced for selected festival dates between 18:00 and 22:00 around the Hwaseomun approach and nearby streets. The booking venue lists no parking. A parking symbol elsewhere on a map does not mean access to the performance entrance is available; consult the September 14 traffic notice before driving or arranging a taxi drop-off.

A practical route for one evening
MEETORY’s suggested independent route, rather than an official tour: allow roughly 2½–3 hours around the gates and park, plus transport and any meal. The following plan assumes an ordinary programme day, not the opening ceremony.
- Arrive near Janganmun around 18:30 and locate the viewing entrance. Aim for its 19:00 presentation if the on-site schedule permits.
- Continue through Jangan Park towards Hwaseomun. Use the park installations as a flexible middle section; shorten it if queues or slower walking reduce your time.
- Reach Hwaseomun with time for your actual admission instructions, then watch the 20:30 show if that is the session you have arranged. Do not treat the suggested arrival time as the official entry deadline.
- If an earlier finish matters, choose the 19:30 Hwaseomun show and a shorter park walk instead of trying to fit in both gates. If you booked a guided tour, follow its meeting time and route instead of this independent plan.

Weather, access and the journey home
Family and wheelchair seating are listed at Hwaseomun. The family zone requires at least one accompanying child of elementary-school age or younger. For wheelchair seating, a companion’s seat must also be purchased on paid dates; a separate entry and exit route is provided. Confirm the exact access arrangements when booking.
Do not assume the whole fortress wall circuit is a step-free alternative. Ask staff about the ground-level route between your booked entrance and the park, particularly if you use a wheelchair or stroller. Use the official leaflet to locate toilets, information points and first aid.
For rain or strong wind, check the organiser’s latest notices and your ticket terms before setting out. This guide does not promise that outdoor performances will continue or that a particular refund applies. If the programme is cancelled, change the plan rather than travelling solely for a time slot that no longer operates.

Check the final bus or train for your own destination before selecting the 21:30 show. The festival closing at 22:00 does not tell you whether a convenient service back to your accommodation is still running. Leave time to walk out of the venue and reach the correct stop.

This article is retained as an archive, not a recommendation to book now.
- Check this article’s event year and end date. Do not use historical prices or sales links as current booking terms; wait until the new announcement and official seller match.
- Match the seller, venue address, date, party size, cancellation deadline and time zone on the confirmation. Save change/cancellation refund conditions and who handles them; an application receipt is not a confirmed booking.
