Mangwon Market works best as a browse-first food stop: walk one circuit, then choose two or three things to share. Snacks such as dakgangjeong and croquettes sit alongside everyday grocery shopping. Decide whether you want 60–90 minutes at the market or a longer outing that continues to Mangwon Hangang Park in suitable weather.

Getting there and choosing a visiting time

Save 망원시장 (Mangwon Market) at 27, Poeun-ro 6-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, or 서울특별시 마포구 포은로6길 27. Seoul Tourism Organization directs visitors to Mangwon Station, Line 6, Exit 2. Check the actual walk from the exit on a map. If staying in Hongdae, do not assume Hongik University and Mangwon are the same station or on the same line: compare walking and transit from your accommodation's exact location.

KTO and Visit Seoul list general hours of 10:00–21:00, varying by shop. A year-round listing is not a promise that every stall opens every day. Check a must-visit shop's closure and availability separately. We suggest around lunchtime or an early dinner for a first visit; arriving just before 21:00 leaves little margin and does not guarantee every dish. The market inquiry number is +82-2-335-3591; foreign-language service is not verified.

Visit Seoul names Q’s Dakgangjeong and Hwanginho Croquette as food candidates. These come from official tourism information, not our own tasting rankings. Match the shop sign and menu, and be ready to choose another dish if the queue does not fit your day. Current individual menus, prices, seating and reservation availability have not been verified, so this is not a confirmed booking directory or price list.

A short market visit or a riverside extension

  1. Market only, suggested 60–90 minutes: station → one browse around the market → choose two or three items → confirm where to eat → station or a nearby café. Avoid buying a large tub immediately, leaving room for something you discover later.
  2. Market and river, suggested 2–3 hours: eat or buy takeaway first, then decide whether weather and energy allow Mangwon Hangang Park. The market and park are separate places; include the walk, crossings and finding a suitable spot inside the park.

These are editorial time allowances, not measured itineraries or queue guarantees. Follow park restrictions and clear up your rubbish. In rain, strong wind or poor air conditions, skip the outdoor meal and choose somewhere with indoor seating. Buying takeaway does not entitle you to bring it into an unrelated café without permission.

Set a spending limit before the first purchase

Without checking individual prices, we do not promise a full meal for a few thousand won. Separate food, drinks and round-trip transport, and calculate food for your group and the actual portion sizes. For example, if you set a total food ceiling of KRW 20,000, keep some of it for later choices instead of spending everything at the first stall. That figure is an example of a self-chosen cap, not a market average or a claim that it covers an adequate meal.

Acceptance of overseas cards at every stall is unverified. Ask before ordering and carry some small cash as another option. If you have allergies or ingredients to avoid, ask about ingredients, sauces and frying preparation, not only heat level. Choose something else when the answer is unclear.

Korean phrases to show at the counter

  • Is there a small size? 이거 작은 사이즈도 있어요?
  • Is there a non-spicy flavor? 안 매운 맛이 있나요?
  • Takeaway, please. 포장해 주세요.
  • Can I pay with an overseas card? 해외 카드로 결제할 수 있나요?
  • May I eat here? 여기서 먹어도 되나요?

Keep the passage clear while eating and photographing. Ask before taking close photographs of shopkeepers or customers. Leaving large luggage at your accommodation makes browsing easier. Use our Hongdae guide to decide how much of the surrounding area belongs in the same day.

Check before you pay

Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.

  • Before food is prepared, confirm whether the price is per plate, person or weight, minimum orders and extras. Match the menu to the order and confirm your party’s total. Keep an itemized receipt.
  • Use contact details reached from the official website. Match branch, product, date/time, party size and confirmation number; a transfer to an individual on social media is not proof of a secured booking.
