Use the free library as a starting point, then choose whether to add a paid aquarium or exhibition. COEX's convention halls and the underground mall have different entrances and tickets; save the exact venue name.

What COEX actually is, and what is free

Above ground are convention and exhibition halls, the Trade Tower and hotels. Below ground, Starfield COEX Mall contains the library, Megabox and dining areas, with underground links to Line 2 Samseong Station and the neighbouring department store. Bongeunsa is across the road; Seonjeongneung is a separate outing west. The library and Gangnam Style statue are free to view. Check the separate admission conditions and budget for exhibitions, cinema, aquarium and royal tombs.

Choose a route for your time and budget

Editorial suggestion: with two hours, focus on the library and a meal or café, adding either the Gangnam Style statue or Bongeunsa if weather and time allow. For the aquarium, budget separately for the visit, mall walking and admission queues; a half-day plan is easier to manage. Seonjeongneung requires a separate journey west, not just crossing the road. This is not a route promising every stop in two hours.

Places to consider along your route

Choose the stops that fit your time and interests. This is an editorial selection, not a measured ranking of local visits.

  1. Starfield Library (별마당도서관) — the free two-level library at the mall's centre, 13-m shelves, 10:30–22:00; shoot from the second-level stairs.
  2. SEA LIFE COEX Aquarium — a paid attraction inside the mall. 10:00–20:00, last entry 19:00. Check validity for your date and whether you are buying ordinary admission or a photo/activity bundle.
  3. Gangnam Style statue — The crossed-hands sculpture outside the east side of COEX is a free outdoor viewing stop. Follow event or construction restrictions; music playback is not guaranteed.
  4. Bongeunsa (봉은사) — the temple across Bongeunsa-ro: the 23-m Buddha, the lantern courtyard, and the towers behind it.
  5. Seolleung & Jeongneung — a separate option for walking among Joseon royal tombs. Allow extra time for travel west from COEX and the visit. If Monday is a Korean public holiday, the site opens and closes on the first following non-holiday instead.
  6. COEX exhibition halls (코엑스 전시장) — Check the exhibition, hall, fee and registration for your week. Mall access does not include a trade show.
  7. Megabox COEX (메가박스 코엑스) — the multiplex in the mall for a rainy evening; Korean films usually have English subtitles only at selected screenings — check.
  8. COEX Mall food streets (코엑스몰 식당가) — Compare menus and last orders by restaurant; a fixed time does not guarantee a short wait.
  9. Hyundai Department Store Trade Center (현대백화점 무역센터점) — Consider the food hall as a meal option. Check department-store closures, food-hall hours and seating separately.
  10. Samseong Station underground passage (삼성역 지하) — exits 5–6 into the mall; the whole day can be done without going outside — the point, on a rainy day.

Pair withUse Samseong Station on Line2 for COEX Mall or Bongeunsa Station on Line9 for the temple side. Seolleung–Jeongneung is a separate westward outing; it is not just across the road with Bongeunsa. For Seongsu or Jamsil, check the direct Line2 route and actual station, without an unnecessary transfer at Jamsil. Include the indoor walk to the mall exit in your time estimate.
Ticket budgetSEA LIFE COEX opens 10:00–20:00, last entry 19:00. Regular admission is 35,000 won for ages 13+ and 31,000 won for ages 3–12. Its official English booking page lists online prices from 28,000 and 25,000 won respectively; check the date and product terms. Bring age proof for children under 3. Photo or activity bundle discounts do not apply automatically to ordinary admission.

For photography or reading, give the library time first. Seats and photo positions are not guaranteed; events can change circulation. Check the actual restaurant and exhibition pages for their schedules.

Book the aquarium in your language; distinguish cancellation from date changes

The official SEA LIFE COEX ticket page has an English interface and a Japanese language option. Confirm the attraction is COEX in Seoul, then check your date, adult/child quantities and total. Stamp-book, photo and VR packages differ from basic admission; review any preselected package. We verified the Japanese purchase interface, not a completed payment with a Japan-issued card.

  1. Save the ticket: the official FAQ says your QR code arrives by email and can be shown on your phone; printing is unnecessary. If missing, check My Tickets using the same account used to buy.
  2. Cancellation: a full refund can be requested for unused tickets within seven days of purchase and before expiry. Unused but expired tickets are excluded.
  3. Rescheduling: official-site purchases allow up to five changes, at least 48 hours before the visit; no same-day changes. Open your order in My Tickets and choose Change Date / Time. A higher-priced date requires the difference. The guide does not promise a refund of the difference for a cheaper date.

Eat before or after the visit: re-entry is not allowed. The normal visit estimate is 1.5–2 hours; arriving at the 19:00 last entry leaves only one hour until the 20:00 closing. Our suggestion is to enter before 18:00 if you want two hours, adding separate time for admission queues.

Check before you pay

Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.

  • Check the facilities, date, age band, re-entry and separately sold experiences or priority access. Before paying, verify whether a QR needs exchanging, the collection deadline and identification requirements.
  • Match the seller, venue address, date, party size, cancellation deadline and time zone on the confirmation. Save change/cancellation refund conditions and who handles them; an application receipt is not a confirmed booking.
