Seoul · October weekend
Ended · archive | Hangeul Day Seoul 2026: What Ends Before October 9, and What You Can Still See

Arriving in Seoul for Hangeul Day on Friday 9 October 2026? The Gwanghwamun Hangeul Hanmadang will already have ended. National Hangeul Week runs from 6–17 October, but that square programme runs only on 6–8 October. For the 9–11 October weekend, build your visit around a free museum exhibition and the Gwanghwamun façade screening instead. The palace hanbok evening is a separate, reservation-only event; its foreign-visitor booking page showed Sold Out when checked on 3 October. All times here are local Korean time.
Four schedules that should not be combined
| Programme | When | Planning rule |
|---|---|---|
| Hangeul Hanmadang, Gwanghwamun Square | 6–8 October | Do not plan it for 9–11 October |
| Gwanghwamun façade film, 스물넷, 우주 | 8–11 October, 20:00–23:00 | Viewing the exterior is separate from entering the palace |
| Hangeul Day centenary exhibition | 2 October–9 February 2027 | Free, National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, third floor |
| Gyeongbokgung Hanbok Royal Banquet | 9 and 10 October, 19:00–21:00 | Reservation and hanbok required; foreign sales page showed Sold Out on 3 October |
The organizer’s overview and government report published on 2 October distinguish the national programme from the square event. The film’s 20:00–23:00 window is not a promise of a three-hour continuous film; its repeat interval is unconfirmed. Check the organizer’s latest notices for weather or access changes.
No palace reservation? Make the museum your daytime anchor
The exhibition 일구이륙 무한이륙 is at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History (대한민국역사박물관), third-floor thematic gallery. The National Hangeul Museum is a co-organizer, but this exhibition is not in Yongsan. Save 198 Sejong-daero, Jongno-gu, Seoul in your map. Its subject is the history of Hangeul Day, beginning with the first commemoration in 1926. The exhibition page confirms the venue, dates and free admission.
Regular exhibition hours are 10:00–18:00, extended to 21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday, with admission closing 30 minutes earlier. General admission is free; activities and guided sessions may require separate applications. Continuous foreign-language guiding is unconfirmed. Check temporary changes in the visitor information; ask the desk about eligibility, availability and ID for indoor stroller or wheelchair loans.
Our suggested sequence: visit in the afternoon, allow a meal and rest break, then follow the on-site viewing arrangements for the façade screening after 20:00. Do not assume you can watch it from inside the museum. There is no reason to queue for the hanbok event without a confirmed ticket. This is an editorial itinerary, not a guaranteed viewpoint or queue-time estimate.
The palace evening: check reservations before planning around it
The Hanbok Royal Banquet, 경복궁 한복 연향, is free but requires both an advance booking and hanbok. The organizer directs foreign visitors to this Creatrip product. On 3 October its booking button was disabled and labelled Sold Out. Cancellations may change availability, but we cannot promise tickets will return. A listing is not a reservation: confirm the selected date and your completed booking before committing to the evening.
The published age rule is birth in 2019 or earlier; visitors born in 2008–2019 need an accompanying guardian, and each participant needs a ticket. Read the foreign-ticket nationality and identification rules, especially for Korean nationals with overseas status. Enter all participants’ names accurately. We did not complete an identity check or test overseas phone or card acceptance. Admission being free does not make hanbok rental or transport free.
Already booked? Go to the check-in gate, not Gwanghwamun
- Check-in is 18:30–19:00. We suggest aiming for 18:30 rather than relying on any late-arrival allowance.
- Yongseongmun (용성문) is by Gyeongbokgung Station, Line 3, Exit 5. The other desk is at Hyeopsaengmun (협생문), toward the east-side parking area. Gwanghwamun is not the event entrance.
- Bring your Creatrip reservation QR and original identification matching the reservation, such as your passport. The domestic Ticketlink/KakaoTalk instructions are not the foreign-ticket collection method.
- Arrive already wearing hanbok. The seller says there is no rental or sale at the venue. Agree a return time with your rental shop that works with the 21:00 finish.
The organizer’s instructions and foreign booking conditions require daytime visitors to leave the palace and check in again for the evening. A normal daytime visit does not let you stay for this event. Rain forecasts assessed at 13:00 on the event day may lead to cancellation; check your booking email and official notices. Re-entry is not allowed.
Choose your day and keep one evening flexible
| Date | Without a reservation | With a confirmed banquet ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Friday 9 October | Museum entry by 17:30; dinner, then façade screening | Finish daytime plans early enough to change and reach check-in at 18:30 |
| Saturday 10 October | Museum entry by 20:30 offers a longer indoor option | Last banquet night; check your hanbok return and journey home |
| Sunday 11 October | Museum plus façade screening, or a separate Nodeul Island evening | No Hanbok Royal Banquet on this date |
If adding ordinary Gyeongbokgung sightseeing, its October schedule is 09:00–18:00, last entry 17:00. Use our palace guide for admission categories. An evening event ticket does not include an earlier daytime visit.
Nodeul Island works better on another evening
The Bitseom light festival runs through 11 October, 18:30–22:30. Its free outdoor art is the walk-up alternative; Live House performances have separate admission arrangements. The organizer now lists shuttle service from 17:00 to 23:00; confirm the final departure at your stop. Read our Nodeul transport and return guide first. It is not an adjacent stop on a Gwanghwamun walking route, so we suggest choosing one evening venue rather than racing between both.
Keep an arrival day flexible: landing time is not arrival time at a city venue. Save the Korean place names for navigation. In rain, use the history museum as an indoor plan within its actual opening hours; an outdoor cancellation does not extend those hours. Check the latest event notice and your return transport before leaving your accommodation.

Questions for planning this visit, not allegations against any business.
This article is retained as an archive, not a recommendation to book now.
- Check this article’s event year and end date. Do not use historical prices or sales links as current booking terms; wait until the new announcement and official seller match.
- Match the seller, venue address, date, party size, cancellation deadline and time zone on the confirmation. Save change/cancellation refund conditions and who handles them; an application receipt is not a confirmed booking.
